Agricola: Revised edition vs original — still a family game?

My brother-in-law called Agricola a 'cozy farm sim' and I nearly choked on my drink.

We have the revised edition because the internet said it's more approachable, but after two games my table still thinks negative points are a personal attack. Which, fair.

For folks who've played both: is original worth hunting down if revised already feels brutal? I'm not a purist, I just don't want to buy nostalgia in a box.

Also what's your go-to first occupational deck for casuals — E? I don't want to accidentally run the mean deck and scare people off worker placement forever.

Family game is doing a lot of work here. Its gateway only if your family likes chores with points

I teach revised with E deck first. I deck later when they stop asking basic questions
