Cascadia bear cards: overrated or am I bad

I keep hearing Cascadia is a chill nature puzzle and then I get bodied by someone who highrolled three bear goals while I'm sitting here making pretty elk corridors like a tourist.

Don't get me wrong I like the game. But the bear scoring tiles feel like they decide the game when they come out hot, and when they're dead nobody cares and its a totally different match. Makes it hard to know if I actually improved or if the shuffle just liked me.

Is there a consistent priority order people use for drafting habitat vs wildlife cards when bears are in the mix? Or do you just accept the variance and play fast.

Also yes I've watched the rules videos. They all say 'stay flexible' which is not a strategy thats actionable at 10pm after work lol.

Bears are swingy but if you ignore them you lose to someone who doesnt. Its not 'overrated' its just high variance.

i go salmon first every time and let the table fight over bears. works more than it should tbh

Remember scoring is OR not AND on the habitat cards. Half the 'bear luck' posts are people miscounting pairs vs trios.

This is why I only play with the BGG variant draft for goals. Not official but it cuts the feel-bad.
