Codenames at Family Dinner — Never Again

Thought I'd bring Codenames to Easter dinner. Simple game, right? Family friendly, right?

My dad gave the clue "FAILURE, 3" and pointed at my brother, my brother's startup, and apparently the word "COLD" because "your brother's business is going cold." My brother didn't talk to him for the rest of dinner.

Then my aunt accidentally revealed the assassin on turn 1 and said "this game is stupid" and went to watch TV.

This is why I only play games with my board game group.

This is the most family board game story I've ever heard. Codenames exposes family dynamics with surgical precision.

Rule #1 of board gaming: never play word games with family members who have unresolved issues. That's just therapy with cardboard.

Should've gone with Wavelength. Same party game energy but the drama comes from the game, not from personal attacks disguised as clues.
