Dune: Imperium – Uprising — Worth the Complexity?

I keep hearing Dune: Imperium – Uprising is one of the deepest strategy games around (BGG weight: 3.53). Is it worth investing the time to learn?

My concern is teach time. I can handle complexity but my group has limited patience for rules explanations over 20 minutes. How long does a first play take to teach and play?

Teach time is honestly 30-40 minutes for a first game. But the payoff is worth it. By game 3, it clicks and becomes the only thing your group wants to play.

Pro tip: teach the first 3 rounds as a tutorial. Don't explain scoring until players have a feel for the actions. It halves the perceived complexity.

If your group balks at 20-minute teaches, this might not be for them. There are great games at lower complexity that scratch a similar itch. Pandemic Legacy: Season 1 maybe?
