Solo Gaming Isn't Lonely — It's a Different Kind of Social

I see solo gaming get dismissed as "sad" or "missing the point" and I want to push back.

I post session reports on BGG. I discuss strategies on forums. I watch playthroughs and talk about them with friends. The community around solo gaming is vibrant and social — we just play the physical game alone.

It's no different from reading a book alone and then discussing it at book club. The experience is solitary. The community isn't.

This 100%. My solo gaming hobby has connected me with more people online than my multiplayer gaming ever did in person.

As a parent with zero free evenings, solo gaming literally saved the hobby for me. I play after the kids sleep. No scheduling, no flaky friends, just me and the game.

I play both solo and multiplayer and they scratch completely different itches. Solo is meditative and strategic. Multiplayer is social and chaotic. Both are valid.
