After years of testing, here's my curated date night game list for couples:

Tier 1 (10/10 date games):

  • Jaipur — fast, fun, slightly competitive

  • Patchwork — cozy quilting, minimal conflict

  • 7 Wonders Duel — perfect escalation arc


Tier 2 (Great but situational):
  • Ark Nova — only if both players are into it

  • Brass: Birmingham — "date night" for gamers who go hard

  • Codenames Duet — cooperative word game, surprisingly intimate


Avoid for dates:
  • Anything with player elimination

  • Anything over 90 minutes (save it for game night)

  • Chess (unless you want a breakup)

This list is perfect. I'd add Parks to Tier 1 — the art alone creates a beautiful atmosphere and it plays great at 2.

The chess warning is accurate. My wife and I played chess once. It lasted 20 minutes. The silence lasted all evening.
